My friend told me about a TikTok video that just melted my heart. In the video, a daughter said, she received an ornament from her mother each year. When she became an adult she would use them to decorate her Christmas tree. They were very special to her and she took great care of them, for they reminded her of her mom. One day one of them fell off the tree and broke. Her heart crumble. While inspecting the ornament she realized there was something inside. It was a little white piece of paper with a note from her mother that read, “This ornament reminds me of your 1st dance recital. You stumbling through it…. Oh have you grown into an amazing dancer,”. What joy that message brought her. Curious if there were more hidden messages, she carefully broke another ornament. Sure enough, there was one inside. Each ornament had a special message inside reminding her of how special she was, to her mom. She was reminded of how much love her mom had for her. And even though she couldn’t see it, others saw her beautifully broken.
We too forget the beauty we have in this world. How special we are to the people we are with. Our thoughts of ourselves are like a distorted mirror giving us a false image of ourselves. We need to see ourselves as God sees us, beautiful! Matthew 6:22 says, “The eye is the lamp of the body, so if your eye is clear (spiritually perspective) your whole body will be full of light (benefits of God’s perspective).” AMP version. He’s not saying the eye or the light but with the heart, the spiritual view. We should allow the Bible to be our mirror. God reminds us that we are beautiful in His eyes. What we call imperfections are what makes us unique and it gives us the character the people around us need. We are beautifully broken.
Our actions also give us a false sense of ourself. What we do tells us, it must be true. If we stole we must be a thief. If we cheated we must be a cheater. And if we allow ourselves to think we are not good enough then we won’t be. What we see is what we get. Don’t let the world define you. Let Jesus wrap his loving arms around you and give you comfort. We are his beautifully broken child. ” All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will not drive away,” John 6:37 NIV.
Another thing we tend to forget is our sense of worth. We feel we sometimes don’t have a purpose here. Life would be better if I was out of the picture. But God sees us and our value. Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” NIV If we see ourselves as a victim the world will victimize us. If we see ourself as a loser we will lose many of the beautiful things God wants to bless us with. How we view ourself shows how much value we feel. We need to see ourselves as God sees us, beautifully broken.
The way we think determines the way we act. If we say something wrong or stutter. If we don’t learn like others. If we can’t multitask. Or if too much noise bothers us and we want to shut down. We automatically think, what’s wrong with me? They must think I’m stupid and feel invisible to others. These negative thoughts, eventually become real and you see yourself as what you picture others saying. 1 Peter 5:8 says, Be alert and sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a lion looking for someone to devour. We need to remember Satan likes to make us feel alone. He wants us to struggle so we will feel empty, lost, and worthless. But we need to remember that we are a child of God and we are beautifully broken in His eyes.
Let's start seeing ourselves as God sees us. We can’t continue to think and feel the way we do. We all struggle. We all feel like others may not understand us, We all learn differently. But if we truly grasp what it means to see ourself as God sees us, it will change our life. Jesus tells us in John 8:31-32, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” So when we allow ourself to break free from the world and see as God sees us, we will see we are God’s beautifully broken child.
